British Prime Minister Keir Starmer is facing calls to resign after it emerged that his former ambassador to the United States was initially denied security clearance for the role that he was eventually fired from over his close links to the disgraced sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
Following the revelation in the Guardian newspaper on Thursday, the government said Starmer had not been aware that the Foreign Office overruled a security vetting process for Peter Mandelson “until earlier this week.” Starmer has previously insisted due process was followed, and that Mandelson had lied about the extent of his links to Epstein.
Main opposition Conservative Party leader Kemi Badenoch said Starmer is “definitely in resigning territory,”
