Watch: History of Cauvery water-sharing talks between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka
Archived records from The Hindu show that in the mid-1980s, then-Chief Minister M.G. Ramachandran, or MGR, repeatedly sent senior ministers to Karnataka to seek the release of Cauvery water to protect paddy crops in the delta region.
