The U.S. has imposed sanctions on three individuals and two firms for allegedly deploying Colombian mercenaries to fight with a paramilitary group in Sudan.
The Department of Treasury announced the sanctions against the Rapid Support Forces, or RSF, which have been at war with the Sudanese military since April 2023.
Rights groups accuse the RSF of war crimes and crimes against humanity.
The sanctioned entities include two Bogota-based recruitment agencies, Fénix and GQAB, and several individuals.
The conflict has created a massive humanitarian crisis, with millions in need of assistance, according to the U.N.
