Meta fined £421 million over mental health risks to children

The social media giant Meta has been fined £421 million by a court in New Mexico for failing to warn the public about the risks its platforms posed to children.

The judge described Meta as a "public nuisance" and ordered it to put the money into a fund aimed at redressing the impact of mental health harms.

The ruling is the second phase in a landmark trial against the firm which found that it enabled harm against its users.
