“How can they not protect my information”: Rogers customer loses new phone to scam

Global News Global News — 2min

It began as a phone call from someone claiming to be a Rogers representative, letting Shamim Rahimi know that the new phone that she had just ordered would be delayed.

“He had full accesses into my information, for this reason I never questioned him or never doubt(ed) that he was a Rogers employee who called me,” Rahimi tells Global News.

When the phone finally shipped, Rahimi says the caller knew when it was supposed to arrive and he had contract and billing details.

The caller then asked Rahimi to ship both the new phone and her old phone back so that the phone numbers could be combined under one account.

It wasn’t until after she sent the UPS package supposedly back to Rogers that she realized she may have been duped.

Global’s Ann Drewa reports.
