Though the unfolding wildfire situation improved Thursday – in what some impacted communities called a “fairly good day” – the situation is still dangerous in northwestern Ontario.
In Upsala, just 90 minutes west of Thunder Bay – where many this week have been evacuating to – the township called for an emergency meeting, advising locals if they don’t need to be there, they should be proactive and leave as soon as possible.
As smoke continue to spread southbound and more water bombers are needed to halt the spread of fires, some affected communities are saying they simply aren’t being provided with enough resources in a timely manner to mitigate the situation.
As Global’s Vasilios Bellos reports, there is skeptical optimism in the region after Prime Minister Mark Carney’s promise to deliver more support.
