British travellers in France have been issued an update by the UK Foreign Office as thousands of people have been evacuated due to wildfires.
Overnight around 55,000 more people were evacuated in southwest France, taking the total forced out of their homes to 220,000 as wildfires spread through the Gironde region, home to the city of Bordeaux.
Gusts have fanned the fires, accelerating the spread.
Interior minister Laurent Nunez said that after a 'difficult' night for fire crews, 'the situation remains very unfavourable'.
He posted on X: “The fire again became extremely virulent again and unpredictable, generating its own winds and advancing erratically toward the Bordeaux metropolitan area.It became calmer by the end of the night."
