A large-scale search on Brighton beach this morning has recovered the bodies of three women.
Police said that they had been called to the scene before 6am amid 'concerns for the welfare' of the women.
Police have not yet identified the women.
Crews rushed to the beach alongside a helicopter and two lifeboats on Wednesday morning in what appears to be a search operation.
Coastguard vessels have been spotted out on the water, with a significant police presence reported along the shoreline, reports the Daily Star.
In a statement, Brighton and Hove Police said: "Emergency services were called to concerns for the welfare of three women in the sea off Brighton at around 5.45am this morning (13 May).
Sadly, the bodies of three women were recovered from the water near Madeira Drive."
