‘YOUR TIME IS UP!’ Starmer challenged after defence secretary quits over military funding

Irish Mirror Irish Mirror — 12min

Keir Starmer has defended the Government’s military funding plans after former Defence Secretary John Healey resigned amid a major dispute over spending on Britain’s armed forces.
Speaking at the G7 summit, the Prime Minister confirmed that money would be reallocated from other government departments to support the Defence Investment Plan.

Starmer highlighted the increase in defence spending from 2.3% to 2.6% and insisted his government would make the difficult decisions required to strengthen Britain’s military capabilities.

Starmer was also challenged over his political future after being told that some of his supposed allies believe his “time is up”.

He rejected his critics with the response “wrong every time” and vowed to continue delivering the mandate Labour secured at the 2024 general election.
