Jacobs to Rubio: “Who won?” The Iran war

C-SPAN C-SPAN — 2min

Rep. Sara Jacobs (D-CA) pressed Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Wednesday over his assertion that the war in Iran is “over.”

Secretary Rubio clarified that he meant Operation Epic Fury, the intensive bombing campaign earlier in the conflict, was over.

“Okay, fine.

We’re taking you at your word.

The war is over.

Who won?” Rep. Jacobs asked.

The secretary said the U.S. had destroyed Iran’s defense industrial base, reduced its missile launchers and drone stockpile, and decimated its air force and navy.

“So, I consider that victory, and we did too, and that was the purpose of Epic Fury,” he said.

Rep. Jacobs noted that the regime remains intact, the Strait of Hormuz is closed, gas prices remain high, and the U.S. and Iran continue to trade strikes.

“The American people are not stupid, Mr. Secretary,” she said. “We all know that this war is not over.”
