Pope Leo XIV called on Monday for robust regulation of artificial intelligence, urging its developers to work for the common good rather than profit.

He issued a sweeping manifesto, Magnifica Humanitas (Magnificent Humanity), on safeguarding humankind as the technology impacts everything from work to war.

The eagerly awaited document, Leo’s first encyclical, follows his declaration days after election that AI represented humanity's biggest challenge.

In the text, Pope Leo denounced the "culture of power" driving the AI race, especially in developing sophisticated remote warfare.
