Lai Ka-ying has been selected as a payload specialist for the Shenzhou-23 spaceflight mission, becoming the first astronaut from China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, according to the China Manned Space Agency.

She described the opportunity as rare and hard-won, saying she felt honored to take part after years of preparation and training.

Lai also expressed excitement about contributing to the mission and experiencing space firsthand.
