Vancouver mayor alleges foreign interference after American callers flood housing hearing

Vancouver’s mayor held an emergency meeting with the city manager and police chief Thursday after a bizarre public hearing that received many calls from the U.S.

Mayor Ken Sim said overseas callers were trying to “clog up our system,” calling it an act of foreign interference.

A hospitality union claimed it organized some out-of-town speakers, arguing the plan benefits developers without guaranteeing affordable housing.

Vancouver police are investigating whether the calls meet the threshold for foreign interference and could refer the case to the RCMP.

Travis Prasad reports.
