It was perhaps inevitable that the first tears Pep Guardiola showed on Sunday came when Bernardo Silva was replaced on the hour and the departing duo embraced on the touchline.
Silva, who was visibly emotional as he walked off the pitch, was given a guard of honour by both teams as he made his way to the dugout.
City's subs and non-playing squad members were all on the touchline to mark the end of an era.
It was too much for Guardiola.
The tears arrived as a man who he has called 'his weakness' left the turf he has graced with such standards for the past nine years.
The City boss dabbed at his eyes with the bottom of his crisp white tee.
