Voting extended to Monday in Peru election

Logistical issues have forced a delay in deciding Peru's election.

Thousands of people in Peru and abroad were unable to cast ballots.

Electoral authorities have extended voting to Monday for 63,300 residents in Lima and Peruvians registered in Orlando, Florida, and Paterson, New Jersey.

Voting is mandatory for Peruvians age 18 to 70, with fines for noncompliance.

Thirty-five candidates, including a former minister, a comedian, and a political heiress, are vying for the presidency amid rising crime and corruption.

A runoff in June is likely due to the divided electorate.
