Donald Trump has issued a stark warning to Iran after insisting that US military options in the region were not limited and claiming America had “total control” around the Strait of Hormuz.
Speaking to reporters before travelling to South Carolina on Friday, August 21, 2026, the US president claimed Iran had “no money,” “no navy” and “no air force” while facing inflation of 350 per cent.
Trump argued that Tehran would “love” to reach an agreement with Washington but was not yet prepared to make what he described as the “right deal.”
The remarks come amid mounting pressure on Iran and uncertainty surrounding the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important oil shipping routes.
Any further military escalation will be closely watched for its potential impact on global oil markets and petrol and diesel prices across Ireland and the UK.
