President Trump dismissed polling Wednesday showing a clear majority of Americans oppose the Iran war as he traveled to a dignified transfer ceremony for the four U.S. service members killed over the past week.
"Americans aren't against the war," he said. "A poll just came out.
Americans don't want high gasoline prices, but they're not against the war.
That just came out loud and clear in a poll.
Nobody wants Iran to have a nuclear weapon."
According to the RealClearPolitics polling average, 60% of Americans disapprove of U.S. military action against Iran, compared to 37% who approve.
Politico also recently released a poll showing the president's most loyal supporters are losing faith in the war, which began in late February.
In May, half of the MAGA base thought the Iran war was worth its economic costs.
Now, just over a third do.
The president was departing Joint Base Andrews en route to Dover Air Force Base for the dignified transfer ceremony of the four U.S. service members who have been killed since last Friday as hostilities ramp up in the region.
The service members include Tyler James Feehan, 25, of Ewa Beach, Hawaii, and Isabella Gonzales, 19, of Carrollton, Texas, who were killed in an Iranian attack on a U.S. base in Jordan.
The third service member who died is believed to be Angel S. Rampersad, 28, of Ozone Park, New York, whose remains will also be returned Wednesday.
Michael Emmanuel Swinton, 30, of Spring Lake, North Carolina, died in Iraq during the detonation of an Iranian drone.
Dignified transfers are one of the most somber duties of a commander-in-chief.
"For me, it's one of the hardest things to do as a president.
But has to be done," President Trump told reporters as he issued a warning to Iran. "They're going to pay a big price.
They're getting — they're being decimated."
