Starmer on the brink: PM ‘listening’ to calls for his resignation

The Telegraph The Telegraph — 1min

One of Sir Keir Starmer’s closest Cabinet allies refused to rule out the Prime Minister stepping down and said he was “listening” to calls for his resignation.

Darren Jones, the Chief Secretary to the Prime Minister, failed to say that Sir Keir would lead Labour into the next general election ahead of a Cabinet showdown over his future at 9.30am.

At the weekend, Sir Keir said he wanted to govern for a decade and would fight the next election, expected in 2029.

However, his last-ditch attempt to save his premiership with a reset speech on Monday backfired and led to dozens of Labour MPs demanding that he quit following Labour’s local elections bloodbath last week.
