The top civil servant at the Cabinet Office, Cat Little, has been giving evidence before MPs about the appointment of Peter Mandelson as US ambassador.

After she discovered that vetting officials had recommended Lord Mandelson should not get security clearance, she informed Keir Starmer, who then sacked the head of the Foreign Office for not disclosing the information.
She was asked why it took her nearly three weeks to tell the Prime Minister about the failed vetting.
