Han Dong-hoon clinches assembly seat in Busan

Independent Han Dong-hoon, former leader of the main opposition People Power Party, on Thursday clinched a National Assembly seat, taking Busan’s Buk-A district.

Han took 42.99 percent of the votes – 99.51 percent counted – narrowly beating Ha Jung-woo who won 41.24 percent of the votes.

Ha is a former senior secretary to President Lee Jae Myung for artificial intelligence, who quit the post to run in the by-election.

Exit polls had indicated that Ha had a narrow lead over Han.
