No charges will be filed in the fatal shootings of three people at a Detroit gas station after a middle-of-the-night car crash following an illegal drag racing event.

Prosecutors say there's not enough evidence to overcome a self-defense claim by the 22-year-old suspect.

They said Lester Owens III, Jasmine Sheeler and her sibling Trevor Sheeler Jr. were at an illegal drag racing event that officers broke up early Sunday, and were involved in a collision while leaving that scene.

They said at least one of the trio was armed when they confronted the other driver, and the suspect fired from the back seat.

Police recovered multiple guns.
