Many Russians who left because of the war had to start over abroad. Some found careers they never expected.

People who left Russia after the start of the full-scale war have had to start their lives over from scratch.

They’ve had to learn a new language, absorb the local culture, traditions, and bureaucracy, adjust to the climate, and make new friends and acquaintances.

Many lost their jobs during the move or after arriving in a new country and were forced — despite having a college degree and a strong portfolio — to take low-paying jobs.

But some have learned new professions in emigration and are happy with them.
