England World Cup squad: Thomas Tuchel was unafraid to be controversial

Thomas Tuchel has axed Cole Palmer, Phil Foden, Harry Maguire and Trent Alexander-Arnold from his World Cup squad.

Ivan Toney, who plays in the Saudi Pro League, is the surprise inclusion as a third striker despite Tuchel not watching him play this season.

In comments published by the Football Association this morning, he said: “It comes down to who we trust...it is about the energy, trust and connection between the players.”
