Schumer pays tribute to Graham

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) paid tribute to the late Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) on Monday and called for the upper chamber to pass the South Carolina Republican's Russia sanctions bill.

"To the very end, Sen. Graham's life was defined by public service," Sen. Schumer said. "He was an important member of this institution and a crucial voice for his constituents in South Carolina."

The Democratic leader spoke about his partnership with the late South Carolina Republican — despite their "many and vehement disagreements" — on issues like Chinese currency manipulation, immigration reform and support for Ukraine.

"I know if Sen. Graham were here in the chamber today, he would join me in urging the Senate to support Ukraine and strengthen sanctions on Russia," he said. "I urge Sen. Thune, in honor of Lindsey, to put the Russian sanctions bill on the floor immediately.

It will pass overwhelmingly and help our allies in Ukraine.

Not seeing eye to eye is no reason to be blind to the way forward.

Lindsey could understand that.

Every senator ought to do the same."
