A cordon remains in place on the A66 following a collision that resulted in seven fatalities including two police officers.
Cleveland Police have named the officers as PC Matthew Blades and PC Tom Clough.
The Independent Office for Police Conduct has opened an investigation into the circumstances leading to the crash at 3.39am in South Bank after a mandatory referral from Cleveland Police.
