The ‘Tokenmaxxing’ Tide May Already Be Turning
The Information
—
At tech giants like Meta Platforms, employees may have embraced the idea of “tokenmaxxing” as a way to show off how dedicated they are to using AI in their jobs.
Don’t expect businesses beyond the deepest-pocketed tech giants to follow their lead, though.
As The Information https://www.theinformation.com/articles/meta-employees-vie-ai-token-legend-status?rc=ndc4g0">reported on Monday, employees inside Meta have been competing to see who could rank highest on an internal leaderboard called Claudeonomics as the most prolific user of tokens—a basic unit of AI consumption companies like Anthropic use to charge for access to their models.
The employee who ranked highest on Claudeonomics used 328.5 billion tokens over a recent 30-day period.
That could have translated to a bill of nearly $2 million based on public pricing data.
