Defence secretary and armed forces minister resign in defence spending row

Sky News Sky News — 4min

Defence Secretary John Healey and Armed Forces Minister Al Carns have resigned in protest over a lack of funding for the military.

In his resignation statement, Mr Healey accused Sir Keir Starmer of failing to properly fund the defence investment plan.

Mr Carns quit shortly after telling Sky's Cathy Newman he was "considering" his position.

The prime minister rejected the claim, saying the plan delivered "unprecedented increase in defence spending in a sustainable way".
