New York Times reporter probed over article about FBI director's girlfriend
The New York Times says it has learned that the FBI investigated one of its reporters, Elizabeth Williamson, after she wrote about its agents being assigned to protect and transport the girlfriend of that agency's director, Kash Patel.
The Times called it alarming and unconstitutional that Williamson's routine reporting activities were probed in this way.
The FBI says it questioned Patel's girlfriend, country singer Alexis Wilkins, when she said she received a death threat after the article was published.
Although agents were concerned that Williamson's reporting may have “crossed lines of stalking,” it has not taken further action.
