Taoiseach Micheál Martin spoke to reporters at the Galway West by-election count centre in Salthill, where he admitted Fianna Fáil has had “real problems” in some constituencies after being questioned on the party’s by-election performance.

The Fianna Fáil leader pointed to cost of living pressures, long-running challenges in Dublin Central, and the importance of transfers in Galway West, saying the race could “go to the wire”.

Martin also defended the Government’s focus on major infrastructure projects, despite admitting that “infrastructure doesn’t win you votes”.
