As Canada and much of the planet deals with extreme heat and other record-setting weather in recent weeks, there is a warning from some scientists that things could get worse.
“El Niño will also give an extra boost to global temperatures,” World Meteorological Organization Scientist Alvaro Silva said. “We know that during El Niño years, the global temperatures normally reach record levels”
As Nathaniel Dove reports, the last super El Niño occurred during the same year as the devastating Fort McMurray fire.
