Guterres calls ceasefire extension ‘important step’

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres welcomed the ceasefire extension announced by the United States, calling it “an important step toward de-escalation and creating critical space for diplomacy and confidence-building” between the US and Iran, according to a statement by spokesperson Stephane Dujarric.

“We encourage all parties to build on this momentum, refrain from actions that could undermine the cease-fire, and engage constructively in negotiations,” Dujarric said.

He added that Guterres supports Pakistan’s efforts to facilitate further talks and hopes they lead to a “comprehensive and durable resolution” to the conflict.
