In a deepening feud, the leader of the Catholic church appeared to be trying to take the high road on Wednesday.
“Although we have different beliefs, we have different ways of worshipping, we have different ways of living, we can live together in peace,” Pope Leo said.
The latest comment comes as U.S. President Donald Trump attacked him again, posting on his Truth Social account, “Will someone please tell Pope Leo that Iran has killed at least 42,000 innocent, completely unarmed, protesters in the last two months, and that for Iran to have a Nuclear Bomb is absolutely unacceptable.”
Notable republican allies Mike Johnson and Vice President J.D. Vance sided with Trump suggesting the Pontiff should “expect some political response” and to “be careful when he talks about matters of theology.”
Touria Izri reports.
