Liberal Democrat leader Sir Ed Davey has warned that Britain is “way behind many other countries” when it comes to supporting new parents, as he called for UK paternity leave to be tripled and paternity pay increased.
Davey argued that British dads receive a “really bad deal” and said better-paid, dedicated leave would allow more fathers to help care for their children.
He also revisited his previous proposal for six weeks of paternity leave paid at 90% of earnings, including support for self-employed parents.
The Liberal Democrat leader criticised the Conservatives and Reform UK over their family policies and challenged messages from the “manosphere” suggesting childcare should be left to women.
