During a Q&A session at Cannes Film Festival in France on Sunday, Oscar-winning actor Javier Bardem called out the “male toxic behaviour” of U.S. President Donald Trump, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Bardem’s comments came when talking about the theme of toxic masculinity in ‘The Beloved’ – the film he was promoting and starred in.
The Hollywood icon described coming from Spain, a place he called “very machista” [chauvinistic] due to the average number of women who are killed monthly by ex-partners.
“Just that amount of women being murdered… It's unbelievable, and we kind of normalized it,” Bardem said. “I mean, are we f--king nuts?
We are killing women because some men think they own them, they possess them,” he added.
Bardem continued: “And that problem also goes to Mr. Trump, Mr. Putin and Mr. Netanyahu, the big balls men, saying, 'My c--k is bigger than yours and I'm going to bomb the s--t out of you', is a f--king male toxic behaviour that is creating thousands of dead people.”
The ‘No Country for Old Men’ star went on to condemn Israel’s war in Gaza specifically — where over 72,500 Palestinians have been killed since Oct. 7, 2023 — saying, “If you justify it with your silence or with your support, you are pro-genocide.
Those are facts for me.”
