Prime Minister-in-waiting Andy Burnham celebrated moving one step closer to Downing Street by partying with a legendary Manchester band at a swanky showbiz awards bash.

The newly-elected Makerfield MP, who is set to replace Sir Keir Starrmer in leading the Labour Party and the country later this month, also threw his support behind Count Binface, who he said was 'carrying the hopes of the nation' by taking on Nigel Farage in the Clacton by-election.

Mr Burnham was pictured at the prestigious Silver Clef Awards at London's Royal Albert Hall on Thursday night (July 9).

He was guest of honour on table of legendary Manchester band, James, sitting alongside lead singer Tim Booth.

He was later cheered by fans when he was introduced on stage as he presented James with the Legend award.

Insiders close to the band told the Mirror they were 'blown away' by the fact he chose to give the award on the very day he was effectively nominated as Labour leader.
