After 25 years, Egypt reintroduces Muhammad al-Durra to school history curriculum

Twenty-five years after the scene that shocked the world, an image of Palestinian child Muhammad al-Durra has moved from television screens to the pages of Egypt’s baccalaureate textbook, in a lesson covering the Second Palestinian Intifada in 2000.

The image appears in the new curriculum in a lesson titled “The Second Palestinian Intifada 2000”, accompanied by a direct caption reading: “The moment Muhammad al-Durra was shot”.

The image, which has remained in the memory of an entire generation, has thus become part of a history lesson for a new generation of Egyptian students in classrooms.
