Park City Mountain’s lift upgrade debate isn’t really about lifts anymore

The Park City Planning Commission tonight could grant Park City Mountain permits for two lift upgrade projects that have long been sought by the ski area.

Nearly everyone agrees the lifts are needed, but not the additional crowds they could produce.

The commission asked the ski area to voluntarily submit a calculation of how many more skiers the upgrades will send down the slopes - a calculation critics say is required by code.

It is unclear whether the resort will comply.
