President Trump on Thursday announced a deal with pharmaceutical giant Regeneron to lower the cost of its medications as part of the White House's drug pricing initiative.
"It's the biggest price reduction in drugs in history," President Trump said at an Oval Office news conference.
Regeneron has agreed to lower prices for its drugs for Americans on Medicaid and to sell its Praluent cholesterol drug for $225 on the TrumpRx website.
The president announced the deal alongside administration officials including Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, as well as Regeneron CEO Leonard Schleifer.
The White House has pursued lower drug costs as part of its "most favored nations" initiative, which seeks to make U.S. drug prices comparable to those in other developed nations, where medication is often much cheaper.
President Trump said the plan is part of his administration's broader goal of increasing affordability for Americans ahead of congressional elections in November.
"By itself, we should win the midterms," he said. "But it doesn't work that way."
