Archaeologist races to preserve Sudan's heritage as war rages on

Archaeologist Shadia Abdrabo is working to create an online database of Sudan's archaeological sites and museum collections.

The France-based project is urgent as the ongoing war in Sudan has led to the looting and destruction of museums.

The national museum in Khartoum — which held an estimated 100,000 objects — was ransacked by militias who posted videos online of their fighters inside the storeroom.

Abdrabo, aims to track missing artifacts and protect Sudan’s cultural heritage.

UNESCO has raised concerns about the unprecedented threat to Sudan’s heritage and culture.
