Northern England Olympic bid

Northern England Olympic bid

The UK government has commissioned an initial strategic assessment into a potential bid for the north of England to host the Olympic and Paralympic Games in the 2040s.

The move follows a proposal from 11 northern mayors seeking to drive regional regeneration and showcase the area's world-class facilities.

However, the plan has already sparked a row with London Mayor Sadiq Khan, who described the exclusion of the capital as a 'mistake.' The assessment will determine the economic viability and long-term benefits of a multi-city northern bid.
