Israel and Lebanon begin talks

High-level representatives from Israel and Lebanon have convened at the U.S. State Department to discuss a potential resolution to the escalating conflict between the IDF and Hezbollah.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio described the meeting as a "historic opportunity," although both sides entered the room with conflicting agendas regarding border security and disarmament.

Lebanon is seeking an immediate end to Israeli strikes that have killed over 2,000 people, while Israel remains focused on the total disarmament of Hezbollah forces.

The negotiations occur against the backdrop of the broader regional war with Iran, which continues to complicate diplomatic efforts in the Levant.
