Fuel protests rock Ireland

Ireland's political stability is under threat as a coalition of farmers and hauliers intensifies blockades in protest of record-high fuel prices.

The demonstrations, which have paralyzed traffic in Dublin and major ports like Rosslare, follow a 24-cent per liter surge in diesel costs over the past month.

In response, the government has proposed a €505 million support package and a temporary suspension of fuel excise taxes, but opposition parties argue the measures are insufficient.

Security officials have expressed concern that the protests are being co-opted by far-right agitators, leading to increased protection for senior ministers.
