OpenAI settles Canvas breach

Instructure, the operator of the widely used Canvas learning platform, has announced a deal with the hacker group ShinyHunters to delete data stolen during a massive breach.

The cyberattack, which targeted more than 9,000 schools and universities, caused significant disruption during the final exam period last week.

While the company has not disclosed if a ransom was paid, it confirmed that the hackers have supposedly destroyed the pilfered records.

The incident has prompted a congressional investigation into the security of educational data and the reliability of cloud-based learning systems.
