Ian Huntley dies after prison attack
An inquest has opened into the death of Soham murderer Ian Huntley, who died from a blunt head injury after being attacked in prison with a metal bar.
The 52-year-old was an inmate at the maximum-security HMP Frankland when the incident occurred in a workshop in late February.
Huntley was serving a life sentence for the 2002 murders of 10-year-olds Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman.
He was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle, where his life support was switched off eight days after the assault.
The investigation into the attack is ongoing, and the cause of death has been officially confirmed as a blunt head injury.
