UK energy bills to rise 4% from October
UK households face a 4% rise in energy bills to an average of £1,723 a year from October, the highest level in three years.
The increase, announced by regulator Ofgem, is driven by Middle East-related wholesale costs.
The rise largely offsets the Government's VAT cut on electricity.
Consumer groups have called for more support for vulnerable households.
