China Injures Philippine Sailor in Sea Clash

Footage showed Philippine Navy personnel in a rubber boat trying to fend off China Coast Guard vessels near the disputed Ayungin Shoal, where a Filipino sailor was struck on the head.

Both sides traded blame: Manila accused Beijing of ramming and using water cannons, while China said Manila provoked the incident.

The U.S. State Department called China's actions 'dangerous and aggressive' and reaffirmed its defense commitment to the Philippines.

The clash comes as ASEAN prepares for meetings where maritime disputes will take center stage.
