Morocco Stun Netherlands on Penalties
Morocco defeated the Netherlands in a dramatic penalty shootout to advance to the World Cup last 16 after a 1-1 draw in Monterrey.
Issa Diop scored a stoppage-time equaliser for Morocco to cancel out Cody Gakpo's emotional opener, forcing extra time before the Atlas Lions triumphed 3-2 on penalties.
Goalkeeper Yassine Bounou was the hero, saving a crucial spot kick, while Ismael Saibari converted the winning penalty to set up a clash with Canada.
The result continues Morocco's impressive World Cup pedigree after their historic semi-final run in 2022.
