Northern Ireland fuel protests

Northern Ireland fuel protests

Slow-moving convoys of tractors and trucks have caused significant traffic disruption across Northern Ireland as farmers and hauliers protest soaring energy and fertilizer costs.

The demonstrations coincide with a confidence vote in the Irish government over its handling of the regional fuel crisis.

Protesters have blocked major roads in Belfast and at the airport, claiming they are being 'extorted' by rising prices linked to the Iran war.

Stormont officials have appealed to the Prime Minister for an emergency aid package to support the hard-pressed agricultural sector.

While the protests have gained public support, health officials have warned that blocking roads could put the lives of those seeking medical treatment at risk.
