Driver Killed in Bedford Train Crash

A train driver was killed instantly when his Luton Airport Express service ploughed into the back of a stationary passenger train near Bedford at 5:15pm on Friday.

The collision left 89 people injured, with nine passengers remaining in critical condition in hospital.

The Rail Accident Investigation Branch has launched a full independent safety investigation into the circumstances, with early reports suggesting the moving train may have passed a signal.

King Charles said he was 'greatly saddened' by the driver's death and extended his condolences to the families affected.
