Swalwell and Gonzales Resign

Democratic Representative Eric Swalwell and Republican Representative Tony Gonzales submitted their formal resignation letters on Tuesday, effective immediately for Swalwell and by midnight for Gonzales.

The resignations follow a series of explosive sexual assault and harassment allegations that led to bipartisan calls for their removal from office.

Swalwell, who also suspended a bid for California governor, continues to deny the claims but acknowledged making personal mistakes during his thirteen-year tenure.

The sudden vacancies have shifted the political landscape in their respective districts and increased pressure on other lawmakers currently facing ethics investigations.
